High-performance engines have been our passion for decades—in motorsport as well as in series vehicles. Today, MAHLE offers comprehensive engineering and systems competence throughout the world for the engine and powertrain. No other systems supplier in the powertrain segment has more comprehensive or detailed knowledge of the entire engine. We cover the full spectrum of engine development: from the initial concept to the new design of a complete engine—and in conjunction with MAHLE Powertrain, to manufacture and fitting of engine assemblies and engines.
We are able to take on all engineering tasks for our customers in the areas of reducing of fuel consumption and emissions, drivability, and electronics applications—electronic control units and electronic diagnostics. Comprehensive, competent, and highly efficient.
Fundamental research and development
In cooperation with our worldwide network of research and development centers, MAHLE Engineering Services works on innovative solutions for new engine concepts in order to reduce energy consumption and exhaust emissions: e.g., alternative combustion processes (HCCI, CAI), new variable systems for valve timing, downsizing, and optimization of friction and tribology within the engine.
Design and computation
Our product developments for the combustion engine range from single-cylinder industrial engines to high-performance engines for road or motorsport applications. Competent engineers are available to assist our customers on site. Computer-aided engineering and analysis processes ensure fast, cost-effective design layouts. Modern CAD systems are used throughout the construction and development process to produce analyses or simulations.
Tuning and testing
For complete engine tuning and endurance testing, we use motored performance test benches, transient and intransient engine test benches (climatizable), and vehicle chassis dynamometers. These allow the power output and torque characteristics as well as the entire emissions engineering services spectrum to be recorded and certified.
